Test Post Don't Ignore
How do you start blogging again? After decades of microblogging on twitter, mastodon, and now Bluesky. There was tumblr and then Cohost (rip). Once you get over the idea that nobody's going to really see this stuff and the possibility of going viral is minimal, maybe some of those old habits will come back.
One of the nice things about Cohost (rip) was you could rapid fire thoughts but also make longer than a paragraph posts. Another nice thing was a lack of numbers on posts, because they didn't have a "score" you could compare others to the tempurature of the website turned down.
Bluesky, for all it's plusses, has decided to recreate the ingredients that made Twitter incredibly difficult to look at for long periods of time - the reimplemenation of the "quote retweet". The quote retweet decontexualizes a post, and instead of being a comment it presents the poster's text above that of the content - and this gives rise to the "quote retweet dunk" where the commentary is the content and the contextual quote is secondary. Previously people who wanted to do this had to screenshot a text, but now it's built into the website.
So yeah in the past few weeks and months Bluesky has went from a "chill place to hang out" to a "I'm looking at this shit for hours at a time, seeing something unpleasant every 30-40 seconds" I've gone through the trouble of unfollowing and sometimes blocking accounts that aren't awful but curiating a feed that's just vibes cuts out a lot of people I care about.
So now I'm like "do I really need this shit in my life? what would regular blogging be like?" it's probably something I'll dust off every few months
